STEPS TO STUDY ACTIVATION

Request Support from Biostatistics

Study design, data collection, and analysis are crucial for a successful study. Indiana University’s Biostatistics and Health Science department offers numerous services, including:

  • Study design input: sample size/power calculations, preliminary statistical analysis, and data management planning
  • Grant submission support
  • Consulting on machine learning and AI algorithms for biomedical data analysis and mining
  • Creating study databases with multiple data entry methods, quality control, report generation, randomization, and subject scheduling
  • Statistical analysis
  • Clinicaltrials.gov reporting requirements

Please note that, depending on the requested service, additional fees may apply to the study budget.

For more information about building out a study database, please see Build Out Study Database.

Researchers should collaborate with the Biostatistics team for investigator-initiated studies. Principal Investigators interested in IU Biostatistics and Health Data Science Department services or consultations should contact George Eckert at geckert@iu.edu for non-cancer center research. For cancer center research, see additional information below.

No-Cost Consolidation

The IU Biostatistics and Health Data Science Department offers complimentary ‘Office Hours’ for researchers needing assistance with statistical inquiries. Researchers may email George Eckert at geckert@iu.edu with basic details about their study. He will address simple questions via email or arrange a Zoom/Teams meeting if necessary. Typical services provided through this mechanism include

  • Advising researchers who conduct their own analyses,
  • Answering straightforward sample size or study design questions,
  • Serving as an initial point of contact for more complex study design and grant development support or engaging a department biostatistician to perform statistical analyses (fees or percentage effort support will be charged for these services).
