- Cerner PowerChart
PowerChart is the electronic medical record used at all IU Health inpatient and outpatient health care facilities and most IUHP physician practices.
PowerChart web-based training is available on Oracle Learn.
Login using Single Sign-On (SSO)
The Oracle Learn platform requires authentication that uses an IU Health email address. If you do not have an IU Health email, use your IU Health/Cerner login credentials in a “pseudo-email” format by adding @iuhealth.org to the end of the username. This means the username will look like an email, but it is not. The password for login will remain the same, but it must be your IU Health password that accompanies your Cerner username.
Example of the “pseudo-email” format: If your Cerner username is “johndoe123”, then your pseudo-email format would be johndoe123@iuhealth.org.
NOTE: You may need to open an Incognito browser window to avoid the IU login from defaulting. This should allow you to input your IU Health Cerner information.
Once in Oracle Learn, type “powerchart” in the finder and navigate to the “Introduction to PowerChart for Clinical Researchers” course.

- Cerner PowerTrials / OnCore RPE
PowerTrials is an application within Cerner, IU Health’s electronic medical record, that enables transparency between clinical research and clinical care.
PowerTrials consists of two applications that receive protocol and subject information from OnCore via an interface called RPE (Retrieve Protocol for Execution). RPE automates the subject status from OnCore to Cerner to enhance patient safety by alerting IU Health clinicians that their patient is also a subject in a clinical trial by adding a notification to the banner bar in PowerChart.
Research coordinators receive immediate notification through the message center in PowerChart whenever a study subject presents to any IU Health facility for an inpatient, outpatient, or ED visit.
PowerTrials also has the capability to prescreen the IU Health patient population against study inclusion and exclusion criteria represented by discrete data fields in PowerChart.
Key attributes of PowerTrials
- Indicates that a patient is a subject in a clinical study by flagging them in the demographic (banner) bar of the electronic medical record.
- Provides basic protocol and study contact information to all IU Health clinicians.
- Notifies the study contact when a study participant is registered for an inpatient, outpatient or emergency visit at an IU Health facility.
- Allows for subject recruitment from the IU Health patient population using screening tools built around the inclusion/exclusion criteria for a study (future functionality).
